Shootouts  on Main Street in Deadwood happen four times a day during the summer tourist season.  The town legalized gambling in 1989.  There are over 50 small casinos featuring slot machines, black jack, and table poker. Deadwood was the subject of David Milch's HBO series with the same name.

Boot Hill
Mount Moriah Cemetery, overlooking the town of Deadwood, is the final resting place of  Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, Sheriff Seth Bullock, Preacher Smith, Potato Creek Johnny, and many other great characters who once lived in the wild mining town of  Deadwood.
Wild Bill Hickok's grave
James Butler Hickok, aka "Wild Bill Hickok" was shot in the back of the head in Saloon #10 August 2, 1876, by the assassin, Jack McCall.
Calamity Jane's grave
Calamity Jane died in 1903.  Her dying wish, "Bury me next to Wild Bill."  The Deadwood townsfolk honored her last request.  She lies next to Wild Bill Hickok.
Seth Bullock's grave
Seth Bullock was the first appointed Sheriff of Deadwood and a close friend of  President Teddy Roosevelt  A businessman, rancher, Rough Rider, and lawman, Bullock was the main character of HBO's Deadwood
series.
Preacher Smith's grave
Methodist minister, Henry Weston Smith, was the first "Sky Pilot" in Deadwood.  He was killed by Indians just outside of town on his way to preach in nearby mining camp.  His death came about 3 weeks after Wild Bill was killed.
